No drives found windows 7. 19, 2012 One of the most beloved of children's books, 'Sylvester and the Magic Pebble' by William Stieg, comes to the stage Sunday at the Schauer Arts and Activities Center in Hartford. This tale, told with charm and humor by the same writer who gave us 'Shrek,' follows the adventures of a donkey, who discovers a pebble that grants wishes. When, in a moment of panic, he makes an inopportune wish that turns him into a rock, Sylvester finds he's stuck - until his family and friends come to his rescue. Stieg won the 1970 Caldecott Medal for 'Sylvester,' but in a strange footnote, the book also was banned in some communities - based on the objections of local law enforcement - for its anthropomorphic portrayal of the village police as pigs. The stage adaptation at the Schauer is by the Enchantment Theatre Company of Philadelphia. The 60-minute show features life-size puppets, masked actors and original music. There will be a preshow art workshop aimed at 4- to 6-year-olds in which the children can listen to a reading of Stieg's book and then make their own keepsake to take home. The actors will remain in costume to meet children after the show. The performance is at 3 p.m. Sunday in the Ruth A. Knoll Theater at the Schauer Center, 147 N. Rural St., Hartford. Tickets are $14 adults, $12 students (13 and older), $9 children (12 and younger) and $5 for children 3 and younger sitting on a parent's lap. The fee for the workshop beginning at 1:30 p.m. For more information, call (262) 670-0560, ext. - Mary-Liz Shaw. ![]() 'Art, Soul & Rock and Roll' will take over the Schauer Arts Center, as those three elements mark the overarching theme of its recently announced 2018-19 performing arts season, its eighteenth at its Hartford home at 147 N.
